Review
IKIGAI,The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles and translated by Heather Cleary is an amazing self-help book. Personally,I really love Japanese culture and tradition. And it's really amazing to see how they are preserving their culture along with other technological developments. 'ikigai' can be described in many ways ,but in short it is a reason for being or reason for getting out of bed every morning. Ikigai is discovering your purpose in life. There are nine different chapter in this book. In book, writers have interviewed native centenarians of Ogimi, the village of longevity of Okinawa region of Japan about secret behind their long and happy life. This book has described about how various factors like Ikigai diet, light exercise like yoga, tai chi, Qigong , resilience etc leads you to long and healthy life. It talks about term 'wabi-sabi' translated as beauty within imperfections. wabi-sabi is a Japanese concept that shows us the beauty of the fleeting, changeable and imperfect nature of the world. It also has mentioned term 'Anti-fragility' which means getting benefits even from disorder and damages. It motivates you not to be fragile and weak. There are many other inspiring terms and things in this book and that's the reason I love this book.
I recommend this book to everyone who wants to have peaceful, happy and long life in this modern materialistic world. This book motivates you to have purpose in life and make your life worthy. It inspires you to have healthy lifestyle and awake you to see beauty within the cracks of everything. About authors Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles are co-author of this book. Hector Garcia is a citizen of Japan, where he has lived for over a decade, and of Spain, where he was born. He is the author of several books about Japanese culture, including two worldwide bestseller, A Geek in Japan and Ikigai. Francesc Miralles is an award-winning and internationally bestselling author of books about how to live well, together with novels Love in small Letters and Wabi-sabi. Alongside Hector Garcia, he was welcomed to Okinawa in Japan, where the inhabitants live for longer than in any other place in the world. This book literally make me to halt for awhile and make me think about," what is my Ikigai in this life?".so, I don't want to mention more about the details of this book so that I don't spoil your read. At the end ,I wanna share you guys one of the quotes from book that I liked during my read: ' The moment your life has this purpose, you will achieve a happy state of flow in all you do, like the calligrapher at his canvas or the chef who, after half a century, still prepares sushi for his patrons with love. '
